Saturday Journal Prompt

SATURDAY-Journal-Prompt-Limiting-Beliefs 05.20.17

This is a easy and difficult thing to write about. Negative thoughts were a big part of my life. Some were heaped on me, but more were the ones I invented to pile on the what was already there.

We all do it. Someone tells us something negative. For example, “You can’t write, so why waste your time. No one will read it. So don’t even bother.”

At first your feelings are hurt and you with draw from everyone to be alone with your thoughts. But then, the worst thing possible begins to happen. You start to think, “Maybe they’re right. You’ve never written anything. You have trouble with grammar. You don’t know what to write about. Why would anyone be interested in anything you have to say? You don’t know anything.”

That’s how it starts. You pile onto what has been heaped onto you and it becomes so heavy and thick, you start thinking there is no way out and you let go of your dream.

The dream however, is still there trying to dig its way out, but it needs help. It needs you to believe. It needs you to change your thinking and start fighting for it.

Some people are lucky because their dream is strong and it keeps pushing until it can grab onto you and it holds tight until you start pulling for it. You do whatever it takes to make that dream become a reality.

Others, need help. For those of you needing help, find a friend or family member you can count on to support you with your fight and if you don’t have that kind of friend, hire a coach. Yes, a coach is going to cost you money, but a good coach will be there for you when the going gets rough.

It took years for my dream to dig its way high enough to grab onto me, but when it did, it refused to let go. Now, I am living my dream. I still have bad days. I just stand up to those negative thoughts and keep going. I can do that with the help of supportive friends and yes, coaches.

What secret belief are you holding onto about yourself? It is time to let it go. You have a gift/dream waiting for you to recognize it. Don’t let it slip away.

Until next time, take care.  lw
