Alcazar Court #161 Illustrious Commander’s 1st Prayer Breakfast

March 18, 2017

Alcazar Court’s first annual Prayer Breakfast was full of joy and excitement. It was held at The Courtyard Marriott Sacramento Midtown on Y St.

When you walked into the room, you warmth and the friendship of all in the room. The Commandress’s colors were yellow and white. The colors made the room feel very friendly and social.

The food was served buffet style and was surprisingly good. Sister Elizabeth Womack, a member of New Testament Church in North Highlands, was the MC. Sister Womack had a way of expressing things (in good taste) that had everyone laughing and enjoying her presence at the microphone.

Being a woman of deep spiritual convictions and a lifetime of experience, she shared thoughts that had us thinking about the way we may be doing things in our life that work against us.

Pastor Alonzo G. Morris of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Sacramento, was the guest speaker. He spoke on restoring faith in the community. He told the story of Nehemiah and his request to the King of Persia to return to his homeland to rebuild ruins of the city and restore the faith of the people.

He then shared a story of a trip with his father and how they had run into a very serious storm going from Georgia to Florida. He told how trucks, cars, and big rigs were pulling over to the side of the road to wait out the storm and each time a vehicle pulled over, he asked his father if he should pull over.

His would say no, just keep driving and asked if he could see the line in the road and the pastor replied he could. “Then keep going and stay on your side of the road,” his father replied. They drove for more than hour before they were out of the storm with a clear sky. His father then told him to pull over and look behind him.

“What do you see?” his father asked

“Cars, trucks, and big rigs all pulled over to the side of the road.”

“Is the sky still cloudy and the storm still raging?”

“Yes.”

“You see, they are still stuck in the storm. No one knows how long the storm will last. It could be an hour, it could be a day. It could be longer. They are stuck at the mercy of the storm. But you left the storm behind you.”

The message was clear. We often accept the troubles in our life and wait, hoping they will go away, when all we must do, is look ahead, focus on the road in front of us, and stay on our side to leave our troubles behind us.

The Commandress, She’ve Case, gave the closing remarks. It was a great event. However, an unexpected part happened after everything was over when a gentleman in the coffee area spoke to me about how much he enjoyed the program from what he could hear of it.

He was very impressed with the graciousness and how warm and friendly everyone was to each other. It remained him of home and his parents and the way people used to laugh, enjoy one another, and treat each other with mutual respect.

For me, the Pastor’s message was a beautiful blessing and much needed reminder to all of us to look to the future, have faith in what God has in store for us, and let go of our troubles.

The program was very well done.

Until next time, take care.  lw
