In December, I attended a leadership event. It was one of the best experience I have had since being a kid.
During this event, I confronted my short comings. My fears, and my negative thoughts that had a strangled hold on me. However, the best part was the friends I made. Friends I have stayed in touch with.
My group and my best buddy connect once a month to catch up on the goals we set. To see if we have met our challenges or if we need the support and encourage of each other.
During our last call, it was great to hear of the goals we all had set and the results of those who had already started work on theirs. I believe I have the best group and I know I have the best buddy.
We are scattered from here in California, Hawaii, and Canada. My two roommates were from Wisconsin and Ohio, and another woman I connected with when she discovered I was originally from Texas. So, we write and speak on the phone.
The program was great and helped me learn about myself and my leadership style, but as happy as I was to leave for home, I was just as sad to leave all my new friends. We learned, we worked hard, we became a team able to work together and knew we could depend on each other to have our backs.
With all the work, we put in, you would not believe we could have had fun! Well! We did. We laughed, we cried, we laughed some more, and thought, “Had I known in advance, what all was involved, would I have come?”
I like to believe I would have, but the truth is, I most likely would have said, “Some other time.” I’m glad I did not know, because I would have missed out on some great opportunities to test myself and some great new friends. All in all, we had fun!!!
If you ever can be a part of a leadership program, take it. Trust me, you will not regret it.
Until next time, take care. lw
